The stock market hurts a buyers brain - August 13, 2011

There is no question the stock market has let some air out of the wholesale market balloon.  It's not that there is less action, it's that they run out of gas long before you would like them to.  The auctioneers all are saying the same thing.  There is no gusto in the bidders psyche.  The out of towners, guys that travel the country buying have become a little sissified.  Their testosterone is missing.  That translates into less action that translates into less money.  That translates into pathetic dealer auction sale conversions.

Anybody can sell trash.  Skill, trust, knowledge and balls get involved when it comes to the world I live in.  Luck ain't involved.  Shmeaks don't work.  The trick bag is played out and reality is on the plate.  Passing the buck is the new auction and rep service out.  Otherwise you have man-up.  It's tough to do, especially in this market. I guess that's how Isold 590 at 94% this week, as usual, the general consignor is in the 30-40% range which is pathetic. I am talking about the $15,000-$70,000 unit, not the $4,000 unit. As I said, anybody can sell trash.  The dealers (or rep service sic) inability to convert is a direct correlation to unrealistic expectations in a descending market and lack of experience in the wholesale world.  Even though wholesale and retail deal in the same commodity, cars, we live in  difference worlds, breath different air, have a different code and take different risks.  The auction is not the showroom.  Most people never understand this...but it's a fact.  We need retail people, but like it or not, they need us more.  Who else is going to be the key to get them out of jambs they can't work their way out of?  They don't need us until they need us, and then they really need us.

We have some great things in the works that will be revealed shortly.  I think they are ground breakers and earth shakers.  The technology we have on the table will make the concrete jungle rumble.  I  can't wait to get them to the market.

It's comical to me when guys say it ain't like it used to be, it used to be fun.  To me we are in the middle of a blast.  And where we are going will be more fun then you have ever had before.  We gonna make Barnum and Bailey roll in their graves, slap jealous of what we are going to do in the world of cars.  Take a good deep breath and wait a second.  We're comin' to rock your world.  I promise.
