Market Conditions Commentary

We are in a weird market.  It’s hot and it’s cold.  We sold just under 600 units last week at a high percentage, but with lack luster return.

The sports car market has evaporated and the export market has disappeared with the exception of a few Canadians and the Nigerians.  The Russians are gone.  The Middle East is buying a few high mile MDXs and RSXs but not enough to mean anything.

Good low mile Japanese units that are equipped correctly and don’t have a hit on Car Fax are on fire.  Heavy cars $40,000 north were very good but they can’t look like they came out of the lease yard.  Anything unusual is rip roaring good.  Humdrum dopey units are worthless.  If they have a hit on Car Fax they are 30% less if you want to sell…and even then it might not get a bid.

Domestic junk is hopeless.  One step above that is good because the Mid-West is desperate for cheap cars.  I sold over 100 units last week to three Mid-West dealers who called back Sunday to tell me a pile were sold and they need more.  I love stories like that even if they are full of bull dung.

I had a spy at the Car Max auction in Laurel Md. Last week.  They had 1,000 units and sold 1,000 units.  I ain’t a jealous guy, but that makes me jealous.  These guys are on top of their game and my hat is off to them.  They know what an auction is about and how to make it happen.  They really got it down to a science.  Salute to the guys in Richmond (and thanks for the units you buy from me 52 weeks a year, I appreciate it).

I have close to 700 units this week in Manheim with some truly wild stuff.  At least 400 low mile new car trades, a great group of heavy units, 150 Lexus, 150 BMW, Mercedes, and a pile of low line.  So get up early and stay late or put on a fresh set on underwear and bid from home because I am coming to rumble.  This will not be an appraisal session or practice.  Make no mistake Jake, these foster cars is finding new owners by Friday afternoon.

Thanks to all of you, and I will see you in the 17545 or on simulcast, but don’t be a stroker and miss it because I don’t want to read about you in the news…”car dealer commits suicide as he missed lane 22 in Manheim Friday, couldn’t live with himself for being so stupid and connected his demo’s exhaust pipe to his bedroom and ended it all”.  That would be tragic so avoid it.  Show up or log in and try to catch me sleeping, it ain’t hard to do.

Love to all of you,

Bob
