Thanks to all the dealers that participated in our 1PM sale yesterday.  The sale was fast, clean, and felt very much like a factory sale.  It looks like the 1PM start works well for everyone so that’s where we will be every other Thursday, the opposite week of the Manheim High Line sale.  It looks like it is a good time slot for buyers as there isn’t any auction in the country running at that time that is selling what I would call a “new car dealer” profiled unit, low mile, clean car fax, and logically arranged. 

If you actually take the time to look around the country at what is available at auctions it is shocking.  What I see is a hodge podge of high mile, painted up, miss matched runs of cars that is near industrial waste with 165,000 mile mixed up with rental pigs and shop flunked rejects, it’s unbelievable.  Anything that might be interesting has a hit on Car Fax.  It’s for this reason I am pleased that the auction wouldn’t give me numbers that run at a normal time on Friday.  It caused me to find a solution and I think we found it.  It is Thursday afternoon every other week. 

This week we only ran and 200 units to test the time and appetite.  The time was perfect and the appetite was good.  Going into the Mercedes portion of the sale we were at 96.% sold with 195 dealers on simulcast.  That is less than I have on Friday’s but this was our first sale and we did nearly no promotion.  The few cars that didn’t sell were $60,000 and higher or high mile units that belong in a random sale.  So that will not be what we will be featuring in the future.  These sales will concentrate on what you basically can’t find anywhere else, but we have in great abundance, low mile, clean car fax, trades, not reshuffled auction slop or rentals i.e.,  the spice that makes your front line look like the guy in charge has a brain.

The success of this sale is a great testament that dealers know and trust me.  For that fact I am humbled and greatly appreciate every one of you.  The Trade-in Market Place dealers were out in force taking advantage of my rebate of $100 per unit paid directly from me to your dealership. 

I think we are on to a solution that solves the fact that I can’t get the numbers at the sale I have sold twice as many cars as any two dealers combined in history, weird, but true, and it makes you job much easier as well.  So out of adversity comes invention.  I think this invention serves us well.  Thanks to all of you.
